The St Vincent de Paul Society is a member and volunteer based organisation that has been assisting people experiencing disadvantage in NSW for more than 130 years. The St Vincent de Paul Society is a leading provider of community support services and has close to 100 Special Works across the State in the areas of homelessness, mental health, disability, financial counselling, supported accommodation, food provision, refugees and migrants and addiction counselling.  Our work is funded by all levels of government, the generous support we receive from the community and our 250 Retail Centres across NSW.

The No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS) Program

The No Interest Loan Scheme is a program that provides individuals and families on low incomes with affordable credit/small loans without any fees, charges or interest payments during the loan cycle. These small loans are provided to allow people to buy essential goods and services and help them in improving their quality of life or enhance their social and economic participation. The Program provides client support and loan management services.

The Role

The NILS Client Support Officer provides face-to-face assistance to clients applying for a NILS loan and responsibilities will include:

  • assisting the applicant to fulfil the requirements of the loan application, interviewing the applicant and submitting the completed loan application to the loan management team;
  • promotion of NILS through building networks with other services in the community to increase referrals to the NILS program;
  • recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers to provide assistance to the program;
  • maintaining accurate client records.

Training will be provided in using Good Shepherd Microfinance where client records are stored. As a user of this system, your ability to maintain confidentiality is highly essential. The intrinsic reward of this role is in being able to alleviate the financial burden of people we assist in a respectful and timely manner.   Read more about this role

To be successful in this role, you will need

  •  Minimum 3 years customer service experience in banking or finance related role
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret financial data
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Proficient communicator and listener
  • Excellent relationship building skills – able to connect with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated understanding of the credit needs of people on low incomes, and a commitment to promoting financial inclusion
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers – recruitment, training and co-ordination
  • Willing to undergo a Working with Children and National Police Check
  • Aligned to the ethos and mission of the St Vincent de Paul Society
  • Class C drivers licence

Employment Conditions

The conditions of employment are governed by the Social Community Home Care & Disability Services Award (SCHCADS). The position is classified as Level 4 and hourly rates range from $31.05 to $33.99 depending on qualifications.

Pre-employment Clearances

Prior to an offer of employment, preferred candidates will be required to complete the pre-employment checks that include two (2) reference checks, a Health Declaration and National Criminal History Check. You will also be required to present evidence of right to work in Australia.
