Department Overview

The Wagga Wagga Central Council area extends from Tumbarumba in the east to Griffith in the west and includes the regional cities of Wagga Wagga and Albury. The Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers are significant geographical features of our area with a number of key Shire’s including Leeton, Berrigan and Junee. Wagga Wagga Central Council provides assistance to the local community in the way of food, food vouchers, electricity costs, rent and medical expenses.   The Central Council has: 4 Regional Councils; 24 Conferences; 281 Conference members; 365 Mini Vinnies and youth members, 750 volunteers; 13 Vinnies Shops, and 4 Special Works.

About the role             

The Community Development Officer provides strategic guidance, support and assistance to the Central Council in working towards the Society’s Mission and Vision and Strategic Plan of strengthening our service and partnerships which allows the Society to offer a ‘hand up’ to people in need. The overall goal is to increase and enhance our reach across the community through service delivery and community engagement.  The role will work with internal and external stakeholders, develop and implement Central Council Community development strategy that provides quality outcomes to break the cycle of disadvantage. More information about this role is available in the attached Position description.

Essential criteria

  • Possession of a qualification within the Community Development area or a related discipline and/or previous experience in a contemporary community development or related role
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with demonstrated ability to relate positively and confidently with a wide range of people/multiple stakeholders
  • Evidence of successfully managing, delivering and evaluating significant community projects, inclusive of conducting risk analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/activities within prescribed budget
  • Experience in writing, developing and acquitting funding submissions including budget reconciliation and reporting
  • Demonstrated capacity to successfully engage, develop and manage volunteers
  • A demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and issues including child protection, privacy and workplace health and safety
  • Well developed Microsoft Office skills including the ability to create excel databases for the purpose of presenting statistical data
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence
  • Willingness to undertake regular work related travel

 Employment Conditions

The conditions of employment are governed by the SCHCADS Award and the salary for this role is on Level 5.  Hourly rates range from $35.78 to $37.78 depending on qualifications.

Pre-employment Checks

Prior to an offer of employment, preferred candidates will be required to complete the pre-employment checks that include two (2) reference checks, a Health Declaration and National Criminal History Check. You will also be required to present evidence of right to work in Australia.
